Hiring for Summer Student 2026: Employment Advisor

Carlson & Company Inc. (operating as The Work Place) is seeking an Employment Advisor. The Work Place offers a wide array of employment services for Albertans. Funding support for the position through Canada Summer Jobs.
APPLICANTS MUST BE:
Between 18 and 30 years of age at the start date of employment, and,
A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment. International students are not eligible participants. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible. Responsibilities
- Conduct client intake and registration, deliver information sessions, and perform preliminary assessments to determine eligibility for services
- Perform detailed data entry and manage both physical and digital files, including file organization and labeling
- Coordinate calendars and manage appointment scheduling for up to three staff members and confirming client appointments
- Contact individuals who have recently applied for Employment Insurance to inform them about available services (via phone and/or email)
- Deliver professional, respectful, and client-focused job search support such as supporting clients in accessing and using technology, including virtual platforms
- Assist with service promotion, including attending job fairs, community events and Virtual Job Hubs
- Provide job seekers and employers with information about programs, services, and community resources
- Research and identify new employment-related programs, services, and community resources
The Skills You Bring
- Strong professional written and verbal communication skills, including excellent grammar, proofreading, editing, active listening abilities, and maintaining strict confidentiality practices
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, databases, and social media platforms, with experience using virtual tools such as Zoom, MS Teams, and other online learning platforms
- Capable of managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with strong attention to detail
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to remain calm and professional in diverse situations
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with community partners and organizations
- Collaborative team player with creativity and initiative, while adhering to organizational policies
- Comfortable working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and age groups
The individual will work at The Work Place, 9814 97 Street #206, Grande Prairie, AB. The job is full-time (37.5 hours a week), Monday to Friday.
